Bruce began his practice with a small plaintiff’s firm in San Francisco in 1979. He and his family moved to Chicago in 1984 and he practiced with a well-respected plaintiff's firm until 1991. He then established a solo plaintiff’s practice in Chicago which grew to four lawyers before he completed his work with the firm in April 2024. He sold his interest in the firm and now works in a limited capacity as a sole practitioner.
During his trial career, he went to verdict approximately 45 times, mostly in medical negligence and product liability cases. He is one of the few lawyers in Illinois who obtained seven verdicts exceeding $10 million as lead trial counsel. Bruce has chaired the Illinois Trial Lawyers' Association's Amicus Curiae Committee for more than thirty years. He authored more than fifty amicus briefs and has given ninety presentations on issues relating to personal injury law. He continues to work actively with the Illinois Trial Lawyers' Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and other bar organizations.
His current focus is to improve the law and work to benefit his favorite charities and pro bono clients.
