Since leaving the day to day practice of personal injury law in 2024, Bruce has focused on improving the law. He does this through his work for the Illinois Trial Lawyers' Association primarily by chairing the Amicus Curiae Committee. That committee analyzes pending appeals and, where appropriate, files "friend of the court" briefs to assist the court to reach a just result. In addition to chairing the committee, Bruce has written 50 amicus briefs to the appellate and supreme courts of Illinois. Recently, he co-authored a bill pending in the Illinois legislature that will improve the practice of law in a meaningful way.
Bruce has taken the lead in helping plaintiff's lawyers defend their clients from claims that healthcare providers are immune from negligence liability due to certain Executive Orders issued by Gov. Pritzker in the early stages of the Covid 19 pandemic. In addition to these cases, he also represents selected individuals on a pro bono basis.
He is also active on the Illinois State Bar Association's Legislation Committee. That committee reviews pending legislation in Illinois and advises ISBA leadership about any bill that comes before it.
Outside the law, Bruce is expanding his activities on behalf of his favorite charities:
